Madhuri Meheta makes it to Indian women cricket team

Madhuri Meheta today became the first player from Odisha to find a berth in Indian women`s cricket team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India included right-hand opening batswoman in the 15-member National team for the West Indies tour, starting this month. Led by Anjum Chopra, who is also the women`s cricket consultant of OCA, the Indian team is scheduled to play three ODIs and five T20 Internationals during the month-long tour.

Congratulating Madhuri, who is now at the National camp in Bangalore, Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Asirbad Behera announced a cash incentive of Rs 1 lakh for the proud cricketer. On the occasion he exhorted women cricketers of the state, especially school and college level players to draw inspiration from the opener and play cricket with greater earnestness.

Expressing her happiness, 21-year-old Madhuri said: ``This is the happiest day of my life. Finding an opportunity to represent the country is a dream-come-true for me. I will give cent per cent to justify my place in the Indian team.``
